About the event
One of the defining features of CAT is its emphasis on language, not only as a medium for communication but also as a transformative tool for changing patterns of thinking, feeling, and behavior. This webinar will include discussions on history, the language used in therapy and the reciprocal roles that play out parallelly. A case example from Bangalore, India would be discussed, where the work with the client was in Malayalam, the native language for both the client and the therapist. This was in a context where the therapist’s mental health training and practice was in English. The work brought up some interesting discussions on the 200 years long history of British colonization and meanings and roles associated with the English language.
