This workshop is for CAT therapists or trainees and others, who might want to explore the possible benefits of offering sessions of EMDR within a CAT therapy and the potential problems created by doing so. It will introduce the basic ideas behind EMDR and how these fit with the work we do in CAT.

About the event

Facilitators:

Alison Jenaway is a retired consultant psychiatrist in psychotherapy and a CAT therapist and supervisor, working now in private practice.  Having trained around 10 years ago in EMDR she has been using ever since, within a CAT framework and has written about this in Reformulation:

Jenaway, A. and “Nick”, service user and expert by experience (2016) “Incorporating Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) into Cognitive Analytic Therapy – Reaching Reciprocal Roles that other therapies cannot reach”. Reformulation, winter pp21-28.

Carol Gregory previously worked as a consultant old age psychiatrist in the NHS and now works solely in independent practice as a cognitive analytic therapist and supervisor. While working in Australia she also trained in psychodynamic psychotherapy. She is an EMDR practitioner and primarily uses this in the context of CAT .
